Brief History of the Lacoste Shoe Brand

The brand name Lacoste dates back to the 30’s when a certain tenacious Lawn tennis player named Rene Lacoste was nicknamed “the crocodile”. November 2012: The Swiss family held group Maus Freres bought over Lacoste.

1933: Rene Lacoste teams up with Andre Gillier and founded la Chemise Lacoste that was responsible for producing tennis shirts Lacoste with the crested green crocodile.

In 1952: Lacoste first started exportation into the United States and advertised it as “the status symbol of the competent sportsman”

In 2005: Bernard Lacoste transferred presidency of Lacoste to his younger brother Michel Lacoste because of illness. Bernard died in Paris on March 21st, 2006.
